County Manager Launches Fleadh Cheoil Chonnacht

The Manager of Sligo County Council, Mr Ciarán Hayes, gave a resounding boost to Fleadh Cheoil Chonnacht 2015 when he launched the event in The Corner House, Ballymote on Monday night last.

Ballymote is no stranger to hosting the Provincial Fleadh and the flagship event returns to the South Sligo town after a lapse of four years. Mr Hayes was there to lend his support. Preparations are now nearing completion for what promises to be one of the best Connacht Fleadhs ever. The Fleadh proper takes place on the 4th and 5th July and  will be preceeded by a week long series of events. Ballymote has always been a fertile ground for Traditional Music, Song and Dance and it has produced some fine young musicians in recent times. The Ballymote Fleadh, and the week long series of events  proceeding it, promises something for everyone.

Full details of the Fleadh programme were announced at the launch in the Corner House in Ballymote. Over the past few years the Provincial Fleadh has assumed a role of increasing importance in the economic and cultural life of the province. Hosting a provincial Fleadh is now a major event in the calendar of the host town and this is particularly true this year, as both the Provincial Fleadh and the All-Ireland Fleadh are in County Sligo. A local committee, under the Chairmanship of Pat McGrath, have done trojan work to ensure that this year’s event runs smoothly. No stone has been left unturned to ensure its success.
