he Donoghue family hail from Clooneyquinn, Co. Roscommon. The townland is situated between Tulsk and Elphin and is the birthplace of renowned singer, son writer and entertainer Percy French. Growing up, their house was a busy one consisting of 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls. Music played a huge part of their upbringing with all having learned to play some form of instrument.
This influence came from their parents, Margaret and Joe, who had a great love for traditional Irish music. Joe was a highly respected musician having played music all his life. He was involved in many different bands playing many different genres of music. He played the saxophone, bag pipes and the fiddle, but most notably the fiddle with The Killina Ceilí Band.
The Donoghues have a long history of playing together at ceilïs, concerts and festivals as well as touring nationwide and in the UK. It is no surprise that their debut album, Retrospect, was released to critical acclaim in 2020. The Donoghues have performed for numerous TV and radio programmes over the years. Their innate musical telepathy along with the lift and drive in their music has delighted audiences over the years.
